You want to know how a nice girl from Kansas City ends up working the day shift at Cheetas' on the strip?
It sounds almost like a joke, doesn't it? A nice girl walks into a strip club...
Except it isn't a joke. In fact, there's nothing funny about it.
This is for real, and this is my life.

With a blockquote:
findings.
Saturday, February 20, 2010
today, i made a huge finding. i believe it's what you call "thrifting".
i went with my friends to a park where there's a big fair where you can buy clothes (old and new. new=handmade=really cool) and old objects. there weren't that many stands 'cause some people are getting back from their holidays. my aunt told me that it'd be in full motion in march. but we went to see anyway. and there was this stand, where there was this:

and i fell in love. i'm pretty sure it doesn't work, but i'll have it looked at anyway. mine looks just like this one, but it's just the tiniest bit battered from age. i believe it's 20 years old.
the colorburst was first introduced in 1978, and lasted until the '80. so it only lived for 2 years.
even if it doesn't work it's a great collector's item, and i'm already thinking of using it in my future photoshoots (when i get my camera back) as props.
and it only costed me 25 arg pesos! something like 5 dlls ;) if it does work, i'll have to find old cartridges/film. and that'll be really expensive.
i'm super happy with my finding!
i also bought a long skirt (black w/polka dots) which i used as a dress tonight to go out w/my friends, and a belt to go w/it. no pics though.
oooh, and i found a really pretty purse! vintage, real leather ;) i'll have to wait to have more money to go back to that park again, next month.

1. If I could medal in an olympic event it would be the snowboarding half pipe, because that would be so hardcore . (lauren's answer, but i'd say the exact same thing, so i'm not changing it, because i'm too lazy)
2. If I was stranded on a deserted island I'd take my books, my notebook, and my collection of CDs. Also maybe Peyton, but if I could keep her healthy.
3. Plugs and electricity are my most irrational fear.
4. I'd rather learn phonetics everyday, than learn English grammar everyday.
5. I am really tired, and happy of having found a cool hobbie that could give me some profits in the future.
6. I should really be sleeping (it's 3 am) .
7. One of my favorite things in all the world is my dog, Peyton. :)

this precious.
a nikon d3000.
i heard it'd be perfect for me, since i'm an amateur, and still have a lot to learn.
when i saw it online, and read its detailed description,
i'm in love
<3
i've already started saving up for it :D
and i'm asking everyone not to get me anything for my birthday,
but to give me some money -anything- that will go into my piggy bank.
i'm hoping to get one like this,
or similar,
or whatever my dad thinks is best for me
(i'll make him think THIS one's the best one)
by the end of this year.
on another note, i started uni today!
well, not really.
i went there, all cheerful, thinking i'd start, and it looks like i don't have to go every day
(these next two weeks are an introductory course for me)
just tuesday, thursday and friday.
i had to get up early today, only to find out that i was starting tomorrow.
i got up at 7 am.
7 freaking am, people!
that's really early for me, considering i was getting up at 10:30, 11:00, some days at noon.
but anyway, i start tomorrow. really start.
i'll blog about it later ;)
happy monday.

*meme started by lauren*1. If I had two hours to myself today, I'd continue writing my newest story. I need peace and quiet to write.
2. If I could travel anywhere today, I would go to Sydney, AU .
3. Being with my friends this summer is my happiest memory.
4. Sometimes you're up other times you're down. Call me whenever you're down.
5. Beauty is inside all of us. Sometimes all you need to do look carefully to find it.
6. I would be embarassed if anyone knew that sometimes I wish I could fly. .
rainy moving day
Wednesday, February 03, 2010
i'm finally in la plata :)
first day of the rest of my life, as i hear in films...
sadly, we were welcomed by the rain. pouring rain.

we got here (my friend Flor and me) at about 10 30 am,
when we were supposed to arrive at 8 10.
the storm started at 2 am.
we got out of the bus, bag over our shoulders, carrying bags in our hands,
and the bus driver had the brilliant idea of just leaving our suitcases on the wet floor.
i had a box full of books, and was about to commit murder
(you don't want to mess with my books ¬¬).
luckily for the driver, they were safe.
but Flor's clothes were drenched.
i'm not liking the rain, but i do like the cool air it brings
(remember, it's summer down here, and LP is one of the hottest cities in arg).
we spent the rest of the morning organising everything in our bedroom,
slept a little siesta,
and had friends over for some mates
(imagine mates being as important to argentines as tea is for english people).
i'm not missing my home... yet.
i know i will at some point, but i'm not like most people,
that miss their homes the minute they leave it.
or just miss it in some degree.
i don't miss it at all.
i needed to change the air.
needed the adventure.
i do miss my dog, peyton.
and my mum.
and my bed, mostly my bed.
but i think it was time to start living something new and exciting.
has anything new and exciting happened in your life lately?
xoxo,
ella
ps: do you like the new look for my blog? i love purple, and i was bored, so i made this new layout, and changed the name of the blog.

fill in the blank friday

*thanks to jaselle for introducing me to this*
lauren from the little things we do started this feature called "fill in the blank friday"; looks like fun, so i decided to join in.
1. If I weren't a soon-to-be-an-english-translation student I'd love to be professional photographer (or just a being photographer would be great, don't need the title).
2. When I'm super upset I mumble unintellegible things under my breath and like to be left alone.
3. My favorite thing about myself is my ability to learn languages in a short period of time (short in comparison to how long it takes others to learn langs).
4. If I found a $100 in the pocket of last winter's coat I'd spend it on music and books. Probably some clothes, but definitely books.
5. Even though some people might consider this a flaw, I love being so stubborn. After a while of arguing with someone, you can get to know that someone really well.
6. I love the way I feel when I'm with my friends, having a good time, laughing our heads off. Best feeling in the world.
that's it for me for now. want to try this? go here.
Tutorial: Get Rid of the Blogger Navbar!
Friday, January 22, 2010
wanna get rid of that navbar up there, that makes your blog look ugly?
well, it's pretty simple!
- 1st thing you need to do is go to your Dashboard, and click on Layout.
- from there, click on Edit HTML.
- once you're there, you'll see a box full of codes. press Ctrl + F to find /* Variable definitions
- you'll need to copy this: .navbar {display:none;} , and paste it above /* Variable definitions
- now click on save, and voilà! your navbar's gone!
if you tried this, and liked the result, please leave me a comment, so i can stop by your blog!

i've had this idea in my head for some time, one that involves something related to this, but i was lacking the drive to start doing it.
until i saw this:
and this cutie:

and now i can't wait to start!
thanks to lauren for inspiring me!
if you'd like to buy one of these (there are more to choose from) visit the Busy Bee Shoppe.

yesterday was my uncle's bday and we had the argentine equivalent of an american bbq.
anyway, we started talking about my going to college, and if i liked what i'm gonna study :S
one thing led to another, and we ended up talking about photography. for those of you who don't know me, i love photography.
my uncle's got a lumix panasonic camera, i don't know exactly what model, but it's a good one, i think it's 18 mpx. i asked him how much it'd costed him, and he said 500 dollars (bought on the net). so i thought "i could get one of these for myself, it's not that expensive" (have in mind that 1 dollar=3, 50 arg pesos).
my bday is on april 15th (my 18th!) and i'm already asking everyone that they give me money instead of a present. i intend on saving that money to buy myself a better camera -i currently have an olympus x-700. i know...
i started talking with my dad about it, and had a great talk. it was more than advise from him, because we shared our passion for photography. it's because of him that i'm into photog like i am. he told me that i shouldn't buy that camera, it wouldn't fit with my purposes. he told me that he'll help me get a good beginner's camera -once i've got the money (donations accepted)-.
i'm so proud of my father. even though he's not around me all the time, i think of him when he's gone. i'm blessed to have him with me. even if he lives across the river. some people are not fortunate enough.

getting ready for the big move!
Thursday, January 07, 2010
in just a few weeks, i'll be moving to the city of la plata, in buenos aires!
i'll be studying eng translation, and hopefully in the future i'll find a job in a publishing house, translating books! *fingers crossed*
that's my goal with this career, if it doesn't work, i'll find something over at the creative side. maybe web designing. definitely photography.
i read somewhere that there are people trying to organise an event or sth called "latin america exists too", to try and get publishers' attention.
we latin folks want books to get published in spanish as soon as possible, not years and years after their release in the us or uk!
anyway, i'm busy these days, writing DN, doing some early homework for uni, and trying to get everything ready for feb, when i finally come to lp and stay.
i'm doing some crafts too, when i have pics i'll upload them.
i'm happy with the way DN's coming along :) i've reached the 25k mark, which is more than anything i've ever written. excerpts are soon to make an appearance here.
in other news, i've posted an interview with 2 australian authors over at TCM, hazel edwards & ryan kennedy.
go here to read it. leave a comment and show ryan some love (it's his 1st interview)
apparently, a publisher from ford street publishing told some other authors about the interview and i've been getting emails from these authors asking if i'd be interested in doing an interview with them. it's the first time i've been in contact with so many australian people.
hazel told one of her writing friends about me and my book blog, and this author contacted me asking me if i'd like to recieve her latest book. of course i said yes. i've never read an aussie book, and i'd love to start!
i gave her my former address for her to send me the book, but from now on it'll be: ella press, la plata, BA!

about me
Tuesday, December 22, 2009
first of all, i hate doing these about me pages. but i feel they must be done.
secondly, i'm 17, and i'm from argentina.
my birthday is april 15th, so wish me a happy bday when the day's come.
i'm an avid reader. i love everything YA. my favourite book at the moment is thesummoning-thehungergames-hushhush. i can't choose. you can visit my book blog here.
i love photography. i'm dying to get a better camera. unfortunately, i have no money in my piggy bank.
i know someday i'll have the camera of my dreams, but in the meantime, all i have is an olympus digital camera. donations are accepted.
i love writing too. i'm currently writing a YA novel -darkest nights-, about a girl whose nightmares come true. i don't know where that'll end...
i'm starting uni in february, and will be studying eng translation. though, i don't know if that's what i really wanna do for a living... all i know is that i wanna have a good job to support the big family i wanna have.
i believe in true love. i'm waiting for my prince charming (*where are you?*).
i believe in family. i think a family's supposed to stay together forever, all under one roof.
i come from a home that only my mom and i live in. but luckily for me, my dad and i have a strong relationship, and he lives just across the river. my 2 younger brothers live there too.
i live in the patagonia, in a big town called viedma. you can google it, i don't feel like posting anything about it here. i'll just tell you that i have a river here, and that summertime is a beautiful season (if you don't count the wind that comes from the south). the atlantic ocean is just 30 minutes away from here.
there was a time when i claimed i was a hardcore twilight fan. now, i'm just a fan.
i'm team edward. those that say they're team jacob: really? he doesn't stand a chance!
it's like peyton and lucas and brooke in OTH. all that brookas thing is nonsense. peyton and lucas were supposed to be together from day one! he was in love with her from the start, brooke was just a distraction, people!
lucas: "it's you, peyton."
peyton: "what?"
lucas: "it's you. the one i see with me when all my dreams come true."
obvi!
going back to the twilight business. i hate bella. seriously. i have a problem that didn't even get "fixed" in book 4. she's whiney, obnoxious, and doesn't talk like a normal teenager. but i guess that's not her fault.
i like the overall story, but if we begin to analyse it... it has some serious flaws.
anyway, my fav book was the 1st. and they killed it with the movie. the 2nd book is my least favourite, and the movie was awesome. i am mad.
i also love creating digital stuff.
check out my book covers and my blog layouts.
i made this blog's layout :D don't you love it?
that's all for now, peeps.
sayonara!
a goal for the new year
